About the note editing!

I found out what I was doing wrong! There is a difference between TAPPING and DRAGGING.
* If you TAP, you insert a note with the length of the previous note (this is really handy for making chords!)
* If you DRAG, you insert a note of the dragged length...

however, since the blocks are quite small, the difference between tapping and dragging ONE block is very small.

I thought had big fingers and I dragged long notes by accident... until I noticed that if I wiggled my thumb a little, i got it right.

I really like the tap=insert note of previous length functiontionality. It is handy for making chords, or if you just want a quick simple melody. However, you need to provide the user some feedforward so that he/she know what is going to happen. Also, the user needs to be aware that you can tap notes to insert the previous length, and drag to set the notes.

So, I would suggest the following: bring the note-duration GUI back, and combine it with the drag-functionality. If you drag, you simultaneously set the note length and insert the note. If you want, you can set the note length with the buttons and tap to insert that note. This has the following advantages:
* feedforward of the inserted note length upon tapping
* you can adjust the note length to one block if you find it hard to drag only one block (wiggling your thumb is easy if you know the trick)

-----------------------------------
If I want to play a song that is published, i get an MP3 not found error. I presume that this has to do with being on the testing servers, but I don't know for sure so I thought I'd mention it.

That's clever. The problem is that there's no room left on all the androids (at least on my HTC Dream there is not). Maybe if we take more space from the vol-fx-pan seekbars or get rid of the Q button.
What about replacing all the bottom bar when you select a sound?, filling it with a different background color, making the change more visible.

Thanks, great feedback

Your welcome. Glad I can help out little. Would love to help more, if I had some more time. But unfortunately I have no android programming experience (although I *do* know Java, PHP, MySQL). I am curious on how you set this whole thing up! It's brilliant, how you guys had an idea, and executed it so well. I hope I'll do that too, some time, with an idea of my own.

okay back on topic.

filling the bottom bar with a different color would definately help! But, I still think changing the drumkit is what a user should ALWAYS be able to do. The Q button is handy - no need to give up that functionality; there are probably users that use that a lot. (I mainly only use it to delete all the events).

Maybe put the kit seleciton back into the pull-down menu, but add a preview button. Because you probably won't use the durmkit-selection much, only once or twice to select the right sound (so it does not need to be in your face all the time -- but it should be there somewhere at the same place all the time)... but add a preview button on the selection screen, so you don't have to close the pull down menu, save, and open the pull down menu.

That is inconsistent with the synth selection buttons, but there are already more differences (of course, no dragging, no piano roll, etc) so that should not be so confusing.

uhmm.. i'm okay if everything gets lost and all;.. but are the songs rendered in MP3 and send to you by mail? Because I have put some work into making a song (robot sunshine song) and it would be frustrating if I don't even get a MP3 out of it!

EDIT:-- found it!---- The MP3 won't get mailed, but you can download it on the testing site: http://server2.uloops.net/testing/web/songs/me

Just something I noticed, all the sounds sound better. :)
And the last song I made, the dance song. I used 2 hats in the 4th loop. And when the short one is played I hear it mostly left, and when the long one is played I hear it mostly right. It sound good, but I didn't make it that way.
Please check if you hear the same thing.

Off topic:

Seba, I know the video should be worked on, just so much stuff going on. And a lot of stress as well, that I haven't gotten to it yet.

I could do a quick cover story on the beta to show whats coming maybe? Pre-educate the people, let me know because then I will have to dive into all the new options and make a clean/fast video.

Maybe that will help prevent people getting scared by all the major changes of general use.

Yes, now drums are stereo so some elements are panned to left/right (e.x. following natural order of hithats in a real drums). Next beta (a couple of days) will also include stereo synths (much better sounds)

That would be awesome, yes, but wait a couple of days until next beta is out because there are other 'small' changes in the UI

Will do, this new version is the golden cap of the diamond amigo! 8-)

The vibrating is good, the sound sometimes is disturbing when you prepare to add some vocals.
So it's good to have a choice.

I love the new way of inserting bars, much better.
And the alternative method of choosing sounds is great as well!

Minor bug: the clap on acoustic B is empty, there is no sound.

Now it will not let me scroll instead I have to put my finger on the area where the notes go and I sometimes erase/add notes on accident. Could you please bring back the ability to scroll with that empty area please.

i agree with this. i hate it when it bleeps at me and me not knowing when or where i added the note. untill i play it that is.

Where can we get mp3 files of the songs we create in Beta? I love this version and really don't want to switch back to 2.1 but I also miss sharing the music I create with my friends and family. Also, I have an HTC Eris and I can't view or post comments in either version of Uloops. Is this because of my crappy phone or does any one else out there have the same problem?

P.S. Fliquid and BlazerX, thanks for your ratings and comments! I appreciate them! I would love to rate and comment on your tunes but I can't. :(
