Linking loops/instruments

Postby Nd0586 » 17 Jun 2012, 10:28

So... I usually create songs by making a loop, then copying that loop a few times, and messing around with it to vary the song a bit. However if I want to then make a tweak to one of the instruments, I then have to go and do it to all of the copied loops. Is there any way to link instruments between loops so that any change I make to it in one loop will be copied across to all the loops that the instrument is linked between? Would save me a lot of time...

For example if that's not clear, say I have one consistent drum pattern throughout my whole song repeated through several loops, and I then decide that one of the cymbals is slightly off beat and needs tweaking in every loop, is there any way to set it up so I just tweak the first loop and the rest all change?

Hope that makes sense...

No, not to my knowledge. What i usually do is set up all of my instruments in the first loop and then start copying/muting/unmuting to create the structure of the song.

This idea has been brought to the dev's attention before. I think in the end it would cause more trouble then it would help, linking all the cloned/copied devices and and such.

Yeah suppose it might do. Think I just need to discipline myself to get the first loop perfect before I copy it rather than copying it loads then deciding I want to change it...

Cheers for your replies!

You think it would cause more trouble than it would help? Granted, I can see it's being a programming monster, but that aside, how do you figure it would cause more trouble?

If you're thinking that it may change instruments that you don't want to change, a simple "apply to loop or apply to all loops" option could take care of that.

I think that given the fact most users can't figure out why they can't record more than 16 bars, uh yeah, it would be way too confusing for people. Lol

It would be nice in theory. But what about loops that aren't cloned? Would still need to be done manually. For it to really be effective, you would have to clone all your synths. Which is gonna just cause as much inconvenience as it will help in the long run. And do we really need another feature that could potentially cause more glitches and problems? Especially a feature we don't really need.

I can definitely see your point. Difference of opinion, though, that you're idea of "a feature we don't really need," would be a GIANT time saver for those of us who would actually be literate enough to know how to use it.

Agree to disagree, here, methinks?
